The Alps are well known as a destination for all forms of mountain biking in the summer. Whether its long cross country rides taking in the epic scenery, or high speed downhill courses, to technical north shore, there really is something to suit every mountain biker out there.

Many of the well know ski resorts have diversified, offering well maintained trails and the obvious benefit of a connected lift system to get your bike to the top of the mountain in a matter of minutes.

Some of the most well know resorts for mountain biking in the alps can be found within the Portes Du Soleil, with resorts such as Les Gets, Morzine and Chatel leading the way. Each year, the Passportes Du Soleil gives riders a chance to see the whole of this massive area in one day. In 2011 Champery in Switzerland played host to the mountain biking World Championships.

Other resorts also host huge annual events, such as the Mega Avalanche in Alpe D'Huez. This has now become a series taking in other major resorts in the Alps.

More recently, other ski resorts have taken up on mountain biking as a thriving summer sport, with Bourg St Maurice providing a base to ride in resorts such as Les Arcs. Verbier also offers a huge range of trails.

In 2012 two prominent resorts in Austria play host to the MTB World Championships.
