Samoens currently remains generally unspoilt by the increasing popularity of Le Grand Massif ski area and its neighbour Les Portes du Soleil. Although there has been a certain amount of expansion, the centre of the town retains its traditional Savoyard feel.

Although it is set at a low altitude, Samoens is only a cablecar ride away from Samoens 1600 and the main slopes of Le Grand Massif.
It is also the only ski resort in France to be considered as a historical monument.

The normal transfer time from Geneva Airport to Samoens is just over 1 hour, but can take longer at peak times.
