Garmisch Ski Resort

This is Germany’s most popular ski resort and is widely known for the annual ski jumping event and the World Cup races.

The skiing area in this resort is spread around a dozen different areas, some traversing the border over to Austria, which is possible if you get your hands on the Top Snow lift pass. The Garmisch and the Partenkirchen are two joint resorts.

The terrain in both these areas is moderately sized with only a couple of areas stretching farther than a couple kilometres. Additionally, you have Zugspitze which is the second highest point (2600m) where most experienced skiers can rise up to.

Eight surface lifts and one six-person chairlift carry skiers to the intermediate-level terrains in Alpspitz, Kreuzeck and Hausberg skiing areas. If you’re fond of amazing engineering, there’s also a funicular railway that goes through the mountain before arriving at the snowfield in Alpspitz – which is another option if you’re looking to head in that direction. These three areas form 40km of safeguarded slopes.

From Kreuzeck you’re able to take the longest descent in the area to carry you down to the base station in the resort. The Eckbauer, an area sitting above the famous ski jumps, is comprised of beginner-friendly blue areas, which is the only spot within the resort that caters to novice skiers.
