Borovets Ski Resort

After a transfer of just 1 hour 15 minutes from Sofia to Borovets, the resort has direct access to 14 ski lifts. Having pistes standing above the 2500m, the snow coverage in Borovets is usually reliable. The resort is divided into two main areas. The first one, standing above the resort are the lift-linked slopes of Sitnyakovo and Martinovi Baraki. In this area, the terrain is mostly beginner and intermediate level. One curious detail about this terrain is that every trail is labelled as red. Which isn’t the case if you’ve been to Austrian and Swiss resorts. The trails in this area would be similar to a French blue. The nursery slopes can be found closer to the village, which is very practical considering it’s close to the accommodation.

The second main area in Borovets is Yastrebets, which can be reached by travelling 5km on a 6-seater gondola. Upon reaching this area, you are entering a more challenging terrain, including the 3 renowned runs that are utilised in international competitions. With long reds stretching across the whole area and a World Cup black run that takes you back to the base gondola stations. Aside from these two main areas, the Markudjika area is also a wonderful option. As well as offering you access to the highest-altitude runs in the resort, Markudjika holds snow the longest and has a particular run used for giant slalom competitions.
