Weekly Snow Update – 22nd February 2024
Boasting the best snow conditions globally, North America has seen plentiful fresh snowfall and abundant powder due to storms originating from the west. After a relatively quiet week following significant accumulations of 20-50cm (8-20″) last week, the Alps experienced additional snowfall, with reports of up to 30cm (12″) in some areas, and more widespread totals of 10-20cm (4-8″) on Tuesday morning, earlier than anticipated. Southerly European mountains, however, have experienced milder temperatures, reaching double digits at 1,000m altitude. In contrast, Scandinavia has maintained sub-zero temperatures, resulting in consistently powdery snow conditions without the freeze/thaw cycle common in southern regions. Despite variations across Europe, most slopes remain open, and skiers generally find satisfaction on groomed runs with a layer of fresh snow on top.
Forecasts suggest 20-50cm (8-20″) of snowfall towards the week’s end, accompanied by declining temperatures. Experts caution that this snowfall, if substantial, could pose risks on certain slopes due to existing conditions.
Expect colder temperatures and increased snowfall throughout the week, with accumulations of 20-40cm (8-16″) possible by the weekend. Daytime highs will hover around 5C, offering one of the most promising forecasts in recent times.
Significant snowfall is expected later in the week, with potential accumulations of 20-40cm (8-16″) on upper mountains. Colder weather will prevail, with valley temperatures dipping below freezing overnight.
Expect freeze-thaw conditions with clear skies continuing. Temperatures will remain below freezing on high slopes but may reach +10C at resort level in the afternoons before dropping back below zero overnight.
Warm and sunny weather will persist initially, but significant snowfall is forecast towards the week’s end, potentially bringing up to 30cm of snow by Sunday. Temperatures will drop across all elevations.
Anticipate significant snowfalls of around 20-40cm (8-16″) on higher slopes by the weekend, with temperatures dropping to double digits below freezing overnight above 2,000m. This trend aligns more closely with February norms.
The week ahead will see mostly sunny weather with temperatures ranging from the mid-20s to high-30s Fahrenheit at resort level. Conditions will remain below freezing above mid-mountain, with a freeze-thaw impact likely on lower slopes, maintaining a holding pattern for snowfall.

Train Station Ski Transfers
To offer customers a varied and convenient service, we also offer train station ski transfers. Travel by train is becoming popular with younger skiers that are being welcomed into the ski community, who want to lower their carbon footprint. So if you’re departing from the train station (whether it’s in Switzerland, France, Italy, or Austria) we can collect you from there and take you straight to your ski resort. All you need to do is make a booking online, after which you’ll receive an email confirmation and can sit back – we’ll be there at the station, ready and waiting to transfer you to your accommodation! For your return journey, you’ll receive a text alert the day before your return – the text will confirm pickup location and time. Simple.
