Vail Ski Resort
Vail calls itself ‘North America’s favourite ski resort’. That’s a grand, subjective statement we can’t confirm, but there is one thing we know: it’s America’s biggest ski resort. Vail has over 5,289 skiable acres and seven legendary back bowls spanning seven miles. It aims to provide you with the freedom to explore without any limits. Free buses and heated walkways connect its four distinct base areas.
Vail is enormous, so it offers skiing on a scale you won’t find anywhere else. You can choose from 193 trails: a fifth for beginners, a third for intermediates, and a half for advanced skiers.
Most easy & intermediate terrain is made of wide-open, north-facing trails. Experts will gravitate toward the legendary Back Bowls—which feature dozens of black trails and off-piste routes. Remember that intermediates can safely handle some runs in the Back Bowls.
An insider’s tip: start in the east at the Blue Sky Basin and then head westward throughout the day. This tends to be the opposite direction of the crowd, so you’ll enjoy it more, and you might even find some untracked snow in the Sun Up Bowl near Yonder and Over Yonder trails.
Besides the usual skiing activities, there is plenty to do at Vail ski resort. From cross-country skiing, on-mountain dining, and mountain tours to watching the stunning views go by on a gondola ride. Make use of the facilities Vail has to offer to make the most out of your holiday!
The resort’s village is a nice blend of traditional and modern facilities. Its restaurants and cafes offer multiple cuisines, so there is an option for everyone. If you need any last-minute ski kit, you can pop into one of their many clothing stores, including Helly Hansen, Oakley, Vail Sports, and The North Face. After a long day of skiing, visit the spa for some quiet moments.
