Skiing in St Anton
St Anton is situated in the western part of the Austrian Tyrol region. It is considered one of the top five resorts in the Alps. It is the biggest connected ski area in Austria situated in the region of Arlberg. Situated within two to three hours’ drive of three international airports, the resort is easy to reach.
St Anton has always been well known for its natural beauty and great heritage. The town is attractively filled with stylish hotels, chalets and restaurants. Home of Après Ski it is also known as the birthplace of Hannes Schneider (the father of modern skiing).
As one of Europe’s snowiest areas, snowfall is reliable and the condition of the slopes are excellent. There is also a highly efficient lift system. St Anton ski pass covers the entire Alberg ski area. The large networked lift system includes the neighbouring resorts of St Christoph and Stuben and the pass also covers the resorts of Lech and Zurs.
St Anton village may lay low, but skiing in the Alberg isn’t, there’s a good range of skiing from 1200m to almost 3000m. The terrain is grassy and below 2000m, so there’s no real need for a large snow base to make the runs skiable. Well over a metre of snow is needed to cover the rocks above the tree line. Early on in the season, lower resorts are likely to have more runs open.
St Anton is suitable for more advanced skiers and snowboarders in comparison to beginners or tentative intermediates. Little ones generally prosper here as there are fantastic ski schools, youth clubs and plenty of non-skiing activities for all the family to enjoy.
